Michael Nwiloh Selected by Chivas USA in MLS Draft

One of Conyers’ own is turning pro.

Michael Nwiloh was drafted in the fourth round (59th overall) by Chivas USA in Tuesday’s Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

Nwiloh, who was a three-year member of the Georgia Revolution, is the first men’s player from Georgia State University to be an MLS draft pick.

“Michael has a great work rate paired with a passion for soccer and I know that will serve him well at the next level,” said RYSA director of coaching Rafe Mauran. “He has a great combination of size and athleticism. He is an exciting player to watch and I can’t wait to see him on the field for Chivas USA.”

The defender started all 19 games for Georgia State this past season and played in 74 games (72 starts) in four seasons while recording nine career points at the Atlanta school. After growing up in Conyers, Nwiloh played his high school soccer at the George Walton Academy in Monroe.

“Michael grew up in Conyers and he will serve as a role model for other kids coming through RYSA that have aspirations of playing professional soccer,” Mauran said."He played each of the first three years of the Georgia Revolution and was an integral part of our tremendous success."

Chivas USA, a team based out Carson, California, joined MLS in 2004..
